Our Kennel is located in the North of Germany, in a beautiful landscape called "Lüneburger Heide". The Lüneburg Heath (German: Lüneburger Heide; also Lunenburg Heath in English) is a region in Lower Saxony, Germany. It covers the area between the cities of Hamburg, Hanover, and Bremen. Most of the area is a nature reserve. The region is mostly covered by a heathland landscape consisting of big heather and juniper areas, forests and some smaller swamps. The name of our kennel "Heatherland" refers to that lovely landscape.
The kennel was founded 1998. We breed Rough Collies, based upon American Lines, with a special favour for Color Headed White Collies. This Collie color is still very rare here in Germany. In the year of 2002, we had a litter of 12 pups: a lively dozen, amongst them the first white pups, that were officially bred in Germany. Our stud „Heatherland’s White Cherokee“ was one of them. In the same year, we traveled to the States, to let our long-lasting dream of a white US bitch com true. We came back with our „Heatherland’s White Maid of the Mist Niagara“, called GRACIE. Her second litter was born in 2005. We kept the dark sable bitch Heatherland’s White Hazel of that litter and three years later, out of Gracie's last litter, her son Heatherland’s Keltic Prince.
During the last years, we imported some more very promising prospects from the USA and Canada: 2007 our white bitch "Special Velvet Sno White" arrived from Boston, 6 months later followed "Special Design by Glasgowhill". The elimination of hereditary diseases, especially the MDR1 disease, is very important for us, so we planned to purchase a 100% American Lines male, non carrier for MDR1. We searched and found not only one male, but also two :-) Heatherland's Keltic Prince was born in our kennel, after a liaison between his dam Gracie with an 100% American Lines Danish stud, based upon Tartanside and Tapestry lines. Keltic Prince got support from our US import stud "VAN-M Opus". Opus is a non carrier of MDR1, Grey-Collie-Syndrom (GCS) AND Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA-CH). He never can produce offspring, that is affected by MDR1, CEA-CH or GCS!! With him, we reached an important milestone of our breeding program.
We have 4 Collie girls, a naughty red tomcat and several cavies, living with us in our half-timbered house with 160 square metres floor space and 1200 square metres garden. We raise our pups in the house and garden with a balanced mix of science, nature and experience. We provide as stimulating an environment as possible as the pups' physical and mental development allows them to engage. We do not want to do too much too soon but we want to stretch and challenge the pups, both physically and mentally, as they grow.
We provide life-long assistance for our puppies' families and like to support them, if they have any questions about training, teaching, feeding and we give some advice, if it is welcome. On the other side, we are always delighted to get new pics of our pups and to get news, how they are doing.
Visitors and calls are always welcome!
